Recipe: Chocolate Lava Cake

Chocolate Lava Cake, also known as Molten Chocolate Cake or Chocolate Fondant, is a decadent dessert that is sure to impress your guests. It has a crispy exterior and a gooey, chocolatey center that oozes out when you cut into it. This dessert is perfect for a special occasion or a romantic dinner for two.

I first discovered this dessert while dining at a fancy restaurant. I was blown away by the presentation and the taste. I knew I had to recreate it at home. After several attempts, I finally perfected the recipe. Now, I love making this dessert for date nights with my husband or for dinner parties with friends.


  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, plus extra for greasing
  • 8 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Fresh berries, for garnish (optional)

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Grease 6 ramekins with butter and dust them with flour. Tap out any excess flour.
  2. In a double boiler, melt the butter and chocolate together, stirring occasionally until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the sugar, eggs, and egg yolks together until pale and frothy.
  4. Add the chocolate mixture to the egg mixture and stir until well combined.
  5. Sift the flour and salt into the chocolate mixture and stir until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared ramekins, filling them 2/3 of the way full.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the edges are set and the center is still slightly jiggly.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 1-2 minutes. Run a knife around the edge of each ramekin and invert onto a plate.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh berries, if desired. Serve immediately.

Serving Suggestions:
